Some anonymous Orange County Fair employees have created a website that channels their displeasure with the proposed sale of the state-owned fairgrounds in Costa Mesa. OCUnfair.com takes [...] Steve Beazley tried to muzzle the fair employees and prevent word about his takeover plan with Ellis from getting out. He tried to get his staff to sign loyalty oath papers promising that they wouldn’t disclose his scheme under threat of termination. The reality is that the proposed $30 million sale price wouldn’t cover the interest on the state debt for even 24 hours. The fairgrounds have been public land for more than fifty years. A small board faction is conspiring with a power-mad CEO to lead the inattentive board majority down a path of destruction. While the fair in Del Mar and Pomona understood market conditions and lowered prices or offered $1.00 admission days, the Orange County Fair was raising its rates on both its customers and its vendors. Not only did the admission fee go up, but so did the [...] Once Beazley and Ellis consolidate their power, sell the fairgrounds to themselves and cancel all future public meetings, the fair employees will be in real trouble. By firing long time fair employee and volunteer Bob Mosley, Beazley has made it clear that those who question his plan could lose their jobs. With this much money [...] The “Weird Al’s Brain” concept at the 2009 fair was an unmitigated disaster. It cost the fair $3 million and Weird Al retains all rights to it… the Orange County Fair simply bought the right to use it for three years (yes, we have two more years of this boondoggle whether we like it or [...] The Ralph M. Brown Act and Bagley-Keene Act require public meetings and full transparency, which are too much of a hassle for OC Fair CEO Steve Beazley.
