@daddycow: Where did you learn of said raise? Haven't heard a word of it - it would have been announced at the board meeting, if it were true. Regardless, isn't the CEO due for a raise when the rest of the staff continue to get them? Also, the CEO takes furlough days. Are you saying all raises to all staff should be put on hold? If you are a staff member, I bet you got your raise.

Enlighten us on the new people who don't have any experience.

Ok, now the media is seeing what we all have known for a long time. Cant wait until the lawsuit of the employees comes out. Once the media, citizens and AG's office see what Beazley and others have been up to there will be criminal charges. This coming week will very interesting as there are two meetings calendared. One is for Monday hosted by Assemblymen Solario and Tran (nice to see democrats and republicans working together to stop corruption) and then the fair board meeting on Thursday. Will be very interesting to see how they handle themselves once the hard questions are being asked. For example, why are we selling this again? Oh, to give you (staff and fair board) MORE control of the property. That makes sense because you’re so good at what you do that we need to give you more authority. The other reason is to raise some quick cash. $30 million to be exact. There are homes in Newport Beach with $50 million dollar price tags. This $30 million won’t pay debt service on our financial crisis for more than a couple of hours (ok maybe a day). Crazy world, but not all are asleep. Have a nice weekend and see you at the firework shows next week!

The current fair board members that are on the newly formed oc fair foundation that claims not to talk about the ocfair (yeah right!) should resign. They are the ones who have caused this mess. Even those who have joined up unknowingly what kind of underhandedness was at play via Ellis. The people are speaking out and organizing because we are the ones who truly care about the fairgrounds as does the city council. This is our community facility and it is such a shame that board members, appointed by the governor, are at the helm to oversee a business they know nothing about. I hope the sale is rescinded soon and the fair board and current management team are asked to step down. What a shameful thing you all have done. if anyone is unfair it is the fair board and the ceo.

so we just learned that our fearless ceo got a raise and they are shifting people around, eliminating other employees and bringing in people that do not have any experience. this is a terrible situation. i hope the employees who are filing the lawsuit will hurry up and expose what is going on here. we have to take furlough days still and the ceo gets a raise. wow

PLEASE READ the STATE's LETTER to CM: I have been critical of the Fair Board and their participation in what is clearly a land grab. Now I feel sorry for them. Why? What was sold to them to be a simple transition of property from the public to their non-profit has spun out of control. Ellis sold them that this would be embraced and supported by the public bodies and citizens. He sold them that they would be the stewards of the property and ensure that the local citizens would be protected. I really believe that they went into this with good intentions (other than Ellis and Beazley). Well, turns out the State has different plans (they don’t care about the OC), the City of Costa Mesa is up in arms, the Board of Supervisors doesn’t want to play, and the citizens aren’t as sleepy as he thought (this isn’t a $25,000 city council race Mr. Ellis). I also hear that their board may not have the money to keep going and or even bid. What then? Well, the state has made it clear that they want to sell. The bidders could be anyone from Trinity Broadcasting (yes the group down the street with the beautiful church/television station-they are very interested), Irvine Company, USC, several groups out of NY, several Indian tribes (what then, cant block a casino on Indian land…) or a myriad of other investors. Watch, AEG will be in the mix for sure. Anyway, why I feel sorry for the board members is that they were sold a bill of goods by someone who didn’t have their or the peoples best interest at heart. He is all about the money and was trying to make a move that would benefit his clients and himself. The board have been pawns all along and now they may get stuck holding the bag as they turn over the keys of the county’s best asset to God knows who. Funny thing, is that Ellis has been way over his head since day one and as noted several weeks ago he is now getting played himself. With investigations, media scrutiny, the elected officials walking away and the citizens out with pitch forks (its Halloween so I couldn’t resist) some folks will now have to answer to a higher authority than blog writers like me!

Thank goodness the Council and the people of Costa Mesa aren't as uninformed as Beazley & his gang had hoped. The Council not only supported a Specific Plan ensuring on-going use of the fairgrounds as it is today (including the much embattled equestrian center) but is pursuing putting long term lock down of fairground use on an upcoming ballot. We all KNOW the game plan Beazley, Ellis, & co. aer playing and it's not going to work. The residents of OC aren't going to lay down and sacrifice our heritage and way of life on some trumped up idea we are helping the State (a sale of the fairgrounds - particularly if successful in locking in use, would be highly undervalued and a literal "poop in the ocean" against the State deficit) and we sure aren't going to help line the pockets of these land swindlers. It's time the rest of the Fair Board grows a SPINE and stand up to Beazley and Ellis. OC UnFair Board Meeting THIS THURSDAY at 10:00 - show up and let them know...maybe our next step is boycotting their homes.

terminated employee

After 11 years of dedicated and faithful service to OC Fair and Eveny Center, I was told by Ms. Nelson "We are going in a different direction, so we have to let you go," after which I was escorted to my car and thrown out like a piece of rubbish. It took all of 10 minutes. I have since been told this is the usual procedure. So much for Mr. Beasley's favorite quote...We are one big happy family! WHAT A JOKE! At the time of MY termination; management, Mr.Beasley,Mr.Lofstrom,Ms.Heathman and Human Resources did nothing on my behalf. SUCH HYPOCRITES!!!
During my years of employment, Mr. Beasley frequently conducted manditory meetings. I must say, he is quite an elegant speaker. In fact, I have personally told him so on a number of occasions, however, it takes more than words to be a good leader. Anyone who is in a position of leadership has to give back. And you, Mr. Beasley, have failed miserably!
Upon reflection Ms. Nelson actually did me a favor!

Bob_is_unfair, let me spell it out for you. Board member Ellis decides that the California budget mess is a great time to leverage a weak time in our state's history for himself and his friends (AEG, Levy Brothers, Irvine Company...). With that said he can’t pull it off alone so he recruits the former Senate Minority Leader Dick Ackerman. The two of them and their pals lobby the Governor's office, Secretary Fred Aguirre and Ackerman’s old pals in the Assembly and Senate to carry their water. Remember, the only property the state owns that is for sale is the OC Fair Grounds. Why? How about Del Mar, Coliseum, San Quentin? Reason, they didn’t have someone lobbying against them. Yes, AGAINST them. Most other politicians wouldn’t betray the local citizens and try to have private sector ownership of a public treasure. Anyway, Ellis needed OC Fair staff support to pull this off. Didn’t want the union getting in the way, needed sensitive and historical documents and information and why not have an inside cheerleader. Enter Beazley. Ellis feeds him a line that he will get the raise he deserves (not making this up! Ellis is on the record in board meetings stating that Beazley is dramatically underpaid and has even used this as one of the reasons why the property should be sold to the private sector) and plays to Beazley’s ego by promising him that the world will change for all and that Beazley will be able to run free with his crazy ideas (more Al's Brain projects...). Funny part is that Ellis is playing Beazley. He has told several that he will bring in "real management" to run the operation as government employees don’t have the needed capacity to run such an operation (again one of his stated reasons to go private sector). Ok, now you have the scheme that has been run to date- so Ellis and company think- in the end it will be Ellis who will be played! In the very near future his organization will be blown up by scandal and then the property will be sold to another group. How about a very famous school with a great football team? Or how about a huge developer who can wait 5, 10, 15 years for "things to change". These guys pulled a fast one to date, but they have no idea who they are dealing with in the real world. crazy how a bad economy, a governor on his way out the door, an ego maniac CEO and nefarious politicians and consultants have all come together for potentially the biggest scandal in our county's history. Too bad the Haidls and Caronas are gone! Oh well, just time for a new group to hit the headlines!
